MiPV Leisure series solar panels weigh significantly less than any comparable silicon panel. Our unique panel construction ensures that a standard 120w MiPV leisure series panel weighs, on average, 12 kilograms less than a traditional glass silicon solar panel of similar power output.

MiPV leisure series panels are constructed using CIGS (copper, indium, gallium and selenium) thin film solar cells. This CIGS thin film cell technology ensures that you can harvest significantly more energy over the course of a day when compared to silicon systems of a comparable cost. This is as a result of MiPV Leisure Series panels utilising CIGS thin film cell technology. As a result of better low light performance Cigs thin film cells outperform silicon technology early and late in the day when the sun is lower in the sky. This means more energy is generated than silicon at comparable costs.

MiPV Leisure series panels produce more energy at dawn and dusk because of better low-light performance. Then around noon when temperatures are highest MiPV Leisure series panels are less susceptible to performance drop off than silicon cells (This is known as the temperature coefficient) again providing a significant difference in panel performance.

Simply put silicon cell performance is much more adversely affected by increases in surface temperature when compared to MiPV Leisure series CIGS cell technology.

It became apparent very quickly that many of if the features of BIPVCo technology could be used to overcome the shortcomings of conventional solar PV applications in the mobile / caravan / boats / leisure sector as well as industrial transport and logistics sector with even greater benefits than in fixed buildings.

Advances in the CIGS thin film solar PV cell technology delivers a number of additional benefits over traditional glass based crystalline silicon panels. It has a cell aperture efficiency of over 17% and the MIPV leisure series of panels deliver a power output of up to 360W. The innovative peel and stick adhesive backing removes the need for expensive and heavy racking systems, resulting in greatly improved dynamics and a system weight of less than 3kg. MIPV Leisure Series modules also perform exceptionally well in low light conditions, far outperforming their glass crystalline alternatives, therefore making them ideal for application on motorhome and caravan roofs.

MIPV modules are certified to IEC 61646 and 61730 standards.

Research showed that there are two main issues with conventional solar PV systems for mobile applications. Firstly, traditional crystalline silicon modules are heavy, fragile and very un-aerodynamic (when installed) performance in sun and heat; all of which created problems when installing them onto vehicle roofs and imposed limitations in use. Secondly the system requires a heavy supporting frame to be installed on the roof by piercing the vehicle shell.

The challenge was to develop a highly efficient, low profile, flexible and lightweight solar solution that could be stuck directly onto the vehicle roof without the need for any specialist components or tools or knowledge.
